【摘要】:Thistestmethodisdesignedtosimulatethetypeofdamageresultingfrompaperrubbingagainstaprintedimage.Theprimarymethodofevaluationiseitherreflectanceoropticaldensityreadings.Dependingupontheobjectiveofthetest,comparisonofeithertheimageortheareaadjacenttotheimageisevaluatedbeforeandafterrubbing.Thistestmethodcanbeusedforcontrolofproductqualityaswellasaresearchanddevelopmenttool.Aswrittenthistestmethodisintendedforuseonlywithimpactprintedimagesinvolvingribbons.However,itcanbemodifiedtoevaluateothertypesofbusinessimagessuchasthoseproducedbynon-impactprintersandcopiers,inkjetprinters,andthermaltransferprinters.Thedegreeofimagetransferredbyrubbingfromaprintedimagecanbeaffectedbyvariousfactorsincludingthetypeofprinter,theconditionoftheunit,suppliesemployed,timesinceimaging,andenvironmentalconditions.Asmanyaspossibleofthesevariablesshouldbecontrolledduringthetest.Acontrolsamplewithknowncharacteristics,ifavailable,shouldberunalongwiththetestsamples.1.1Thistestmethodcoversaprocedurefordeterminingtheamountofimagetransferredfromonesiteandredepositedatanothersite(smudge)onadocument.TheSutherlandInkRubTesterwith4-lb(1.82-kg)testblockisthetestinstrumentforproducingthetransferandeitherareflectometerordensitometerisemployedformeasuringthechangeinimages.Alternatively,avisualratingordercanbeemployedtoestablisharankingorder.Thedegreetowhichtheoriginalimageisunaltereduponrubbingisconsideredtobetheabrasionresistance.1.2Thistestmethodcanbeemployedtoevaluatethesmudgeresistanceofbusinessimagingproductsproducedbytypewriters,andimpactprinters.1.3Thistestmethodcanalsobeemployedtomeasureperformancecharacteristicsforaproduct.Theusershouldselecttestequipmentthatisappropriateformeasuringthedegreeofabrasiontothesamples.Samplesaretestedbeforeandafterrubbingandcomparisonsofresultsmade.Inthistestmethodproductperformanceevaluationsareoptional.1.4OthertestmethodsemployingtheCrockmeter,TaberAbrader,andGavartiGA-C.A.T.canbeemployedtoevaluatethesmudgeandabrasioncharacteristics.ResultsbytheseunitsarenotnecessarilyequivalenttothoseobtainedwiththeSutherland.1.5Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.TheSIunitsgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
