Title:Gasoline Direct Injection Fuel Pump

Scope: Recommended Practice. A direct injection gasoline DIG fuel pump supplies pressurized fuel to the DIG fuel System. A fuel pump may be mechanically driven by the engine or may be electrically driven. A more detailed description of basic fuel pump operation may be found in the attached appendix. The contraool of fuel pressure is typically determined by an engine c ontraol module through a regulaotor valve. There are two typical types of DIG fuel System, re-circulation and demand system (ref: Figure) in a revcirculation system the DIG fuel pump delivers pressurized fuel continuously and the pressure is controlled by an electrical regulator valve. In a demand system the fuel pump has a control valve that limits the amount of fuel delivered to the DIG fuel system.
